Una familia maravillosa- June 24, 2010

Thursday started out early for Michelle and I as we decided to start running! We didn't run too long but it felt so good to do some actual exercise! We found that there really are Mexicans that go running! BUT we still seemed to draw a lot of attention…no matter what we do. But there is this nice median in front of the gate in between the streets and they call it a park…it's not really what I would call a park but it works. It has a sidewalk that runs for a long ways down the road and it's like a nice boulevard with trees and marble work and stuff. We are determined to stay in shape…or at least not get fat while we are here! Ha our mama told us that one of her girls last year gained 10 KILOS!! While she was here. We eat pretty well in our house and she said we don't eat nearly as much as the girls last year did (which means they must have eaten a TON) so we're hoping we'll be fine :-)

After school yesterday we went to Costco and Walmart (It's probably like a 10 minuteish bus ride). We needed to buy some notebooks and snacks and Michelle and I wanted to by whitening strips BUT apparently they don't have those here. I asked a couple workers and they knew what I was talking about but I think maybe they're like an American thing.? I guess we really like our teeth. I don't know.

When we got home from the store we rested for a little bit and then went outside with Marcela and the kids for awhile. In the afternoon it started raining way hard. The rain is interesting because, at least most of the time, you can see lightening for a long time before it starts raining. The storm was SO loud and strong yesterday and I think the power went out 2 or three times. We just hung out with Daniela and Gerardo and watched a movie, in Spanish of course, and I tried to pick a template for my wedding website ha. We also looked at pictures of the family with Daniela and showed them pictures of our families.

We also learned how to make Flan! Marcela taught us and it was WAY cool how she did and WAY easy…we haven't eaten it yet..we will eat it Friday but everything in it lends to a successful dessert so we will see! It was really funny because we were not paying attention to the time and she called us in a slight panic and asked us what time we were supposed to turn it off (because we were supposed to remember) and I had forgotten and Michelle knew and realized it was past the time and she was teasing us saying "No son chefs!" ha she's such a sweet woman!

We feel way blessed to have been assigned to live with this family. They teach us SO much and are so fun for us to be with that I hardly even want to go out and do other things! The kids are just so fun and she helps us to understand new words and we probably speak more spanish in the house than we do anywhere else! I love it!!
